I was intrigued by this mention of names and genealogy from this book,
Slovonic names or origin are noted in the sources in neutral fashion: Niketas, Patriarch of Constantinople (766-80), was a Slav eunuch. . . this early and widespread use of family names set Byantium apart from other states., as a society with a developed awareness of the importance of genealogy and personal relations. (pp. 93-4)given the reference in the Bohemia subsection of the Origins section of the Tschirley Family book,
It is reasonable to assume the Tschirley name is Czech . . . The first Czech tribes appeared in the fifth century, the family heritage probably is a mixture of many ethnic groups.
